Bassam al-Haidari, 26, was found guilty of writing to Ehud Olmert, the Israeli prime minister, offering to work as an agent for Israel's Mossad intelligence agency.
Two other men were also convicted in the case. Israel said it had no contact with the three men. Mohsen Elwan, a Yemeni judge, said the court found there was "clear evidence."
The three men, who denied the charges, said they would appeal against the ruling.
"This is unfair, you have sentenced me without any proof of these accusations," al-Haidari, the defendant, said.
