a 27-year-old man of Mwense was sentenced to death by the High Court in Mansa, Zambia, for murder. White Mwape of Chilengwe village in Chief Lubunda's area was convicted of murdering Christopher Mwape of the same area. Mwape allegedly committed the offence on April 24, 2008. He was charged with murder under Cap. 87 section 200 of the laws of Zambia. The court heard that Mwape murdered Christopher using a hoe while they were harvesting groundnuts in a field, and fled before he was apprehended by the members of the neighbourhood watch at Tente village three days later. When passing judgement, High Court judge Muyinda Wanki said the prosecution had proved beyond doubts that Mwape had intentions of murdering his colleague because he used a sharp instrument to injure Christopher. Judge Wanki said he was satisfied with evidence given by the six witnesses as well as the prosecution.
