a 28-year-old man named Shaheer, convicted of killing a police constable on duty on September 9, 2003, was sentenced to death by the additional sessions court in Kochi, India.
K T Lonappan, 41, a constable attached to the Fort Kochi police station, was stabbed to death when he attempted to arrest the convict who was trying to flee after committing theft.
The additional sessions judge, B Kamal Pasha, sentenced to life Biju, 25, a co-accused in the case. He was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 10,000. Both the accused were sent to the Viyoor central jail at Thrissur.
