Pakistan: ASI sentenced to death for killing two brothers in Swabi

A Swabi court on August 31, 2026 convicted and sentenced to death on two counts an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in a double murder case.

Additional Sessions Judge, Swabi, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, announced the verdict and sentenced the accused ASI Ijaz Khan to death on two counts.

Ijaz Khan had opened fire on five people after a minor altercation over the ownership of a mine, killing two brothers and injuring three others in Karnal Sher Khan village on June 24, 2024.

The short verdict said, however, that the death sentence would be subject to confirmation by the Peshawar High Court in accordance with the law. The court also directed that the convict would have to pay Rs1 million compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased.

In case of default, he shall undergo simple imprisonment for a period of six months, said the verdict.

Similarly, he was given a death sentence in the second murder case with a fine of Rs1 million.

He was also convicted under section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code for firing at and injuring Bakht Said, Iqbal Said and Alam Sher, and sentenced to five years each in prison and fined Rs50,000 each.
