a death sentence was ordered for Jimmy Lamar Killingsworth Jr. He was sentenced on his capital murder conviction in the Dec. 10, 2004 shooting death of 36-year-old Steven C. Spears during a robbery.
The jury had voted 7 to 5 for life without parole, but Circuit Judge Thomas R. Jones, who imposed the death penalty, was not bound by that recommendation.
A 2nd defendant, Troy Connell, was identified as the shooter but was not eligible for the death penalty because he was 16 at the time of the killing. Killingsworth was 28 at the time of the murder.
