A public hearing regarding retention or abolishment of capital punishment was held in Kyzylorda. Officers of law and other state bodies, mass media and public organizations participated in the debate. Opinions differed dramatically and most speakers attempted to prove that the abolishment of death penalty would be a premature decision. Some participants proposed to conduct additional investigation after sentencing so as to avoid judicial errors, whilst others speakers declared it necessary that a moratorium on capital punishment be imposed.
