According to Iranian and foreign press, Zhila Izadi, 13, from the northwestern city of Marivan, Iran, has been condemned to death after being impregnated by her 15-year-old brother. In accordance with Islamic law, he has been sentenced to receive 150 lashes.
The circumstances under which Zhila became pregnant are still unknown, but independent Iranian sources outside the country said her father, a devout Muslim, informed the authorities about the "disgrace" she had caused the family. Human-rights activists in Denmark said Zhila's sentence has not yet been confirmed.
However, it was reported by IRNA, that an informed judiciary source denied the reports.Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source stressed that the girl had been sentenced to jail.
The source stated that the convict as well as another defendant in the case had been handed over to welfare authorities of Kurdistan province to serve their jail terms.
