Aicha El-Wafi, the mother of the first man charged in the planning of Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, Zacarias Moussaoui, said she believed her son was innocent and expressed sympathy for victims of the attacks on the United States.
"He did not do it, and a civilized society should not take barbaric measures," El-Wafi said on whether the US government will seek the death penalty for her son.
The government has until March to decide whether it will seek the death penalty.
