Amnesty International wrote to Ugandan President Museveni urging him to abolish the death penalty

Amnesty International wrote to Ugandan President Museveni urging him to abolish the death penalty. The organisation's rights section based in Aix-en-Province in southern France said it had so far gathered 233 signatures from top officials in European governments and religious authorities in the hope of exerting pressure on authorities in Uganda. "We oppose the death penalty in all cases as a violation of the right to life and the right of not being subjected to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment," a letter addressed to President Museveni said.
