An appeal court upheld a lower court ruling that sentenced a former newspaper deliveryman to death for murdering a woman and her elderly mother in Tokyo after they refused to lend him money.
The Tokyo High Court dismissed an appeal that Hiroki Fukawa, 36, had filed against the [March 21] death sentence for strangling and stabbing to death Hiro Yamada, 65, and her 91-year-old mother, Shin, in 1999.
