An armed Afghan bandit, sentenced to death for clashes with Iranian police and carrying narcotics, was hanged in the northeastern city of Sabzevar in Khorasan Province, the Persian daily Jam-e Jam said.
The paper identified him as Ahmad Samanzehi, saying he had earlier fled arrest after clashes with security forces. Police recently rounded him up in the city of Kashmar and confiscated 60 kg of opium and morphine from him, it added.
The Persian daily Siyasat-e Ruz said that a Tehran court has issued a death sentence on a convicted notorious thug in the capital.
The paper identified the convict as Majid Abedi, 24, saying the court has found him guilty of attacking people with knives, adultery and consuming alcohol.
A supreme court has upheld the sentence on him as "muharib" or somebody who wages war against God, it added.
