According to the prosecution, Muthusamy had married off his daughter Maheswari to one Saravanan. Maheshwari had returned to her parents' place following frequent quarrels with her husband. Her parents, uncle and brother pacified her and took her back to her husband's house. But following a verbal duel, the parents decided to take Maheshwari home with them.
