An Iranian hanged for murder was cut down alive from the gallows after four minutes, following a pardon granted by his victim's family.
Ramin Tshaharleng was narrowly saved thanks to the pardon by the family of his victim Said Hatami, whom he murdered in 1998. Tshaharleng was then taken to hospital and his condition was listed as "satisfactory". Tshaharleng had been condemned to death in Azna in south-western Iran.
Death sentences for murder are pronounced under Sharia or Islamic law, which also allows for a pardon. The Islamic Sharia allows for pardons if the family of the murdered forgive the killer. In most cases, the family of the murderer pay diyya or blood money.
