An Iranian, sentenced to death for shooting of a mother and her son, was hanged in public in northeastern Tehran before the eyes of hundreds of onlookers one week after his brother ended up at the gallows on the same charge.
Mehdi Ahmadi was hanged in Sohanak area early in the morning after having been found guilty of murdering Faridatossadat Amir-Hoseyni, 48, and her 24-year-old son, Mehdi Golestani in January.
The Supreme Court had previously ordered the trial court's death sentence against Mehdi to be suspended pending the outcome of further investigations.
In Tehran's Qasr Prison a woman and three other men, convicted of murder for robbery, were hanged.
The 37-year-old woman, identified as Jamileh Asadpur, had strangled to death an old woman before robbing her house and the three men, all aged 29, had killed a couple to steal their properties.
Earlier in 2001 the head of the Tehran Criminal Court, Naser Seraj, announced that the Supreme Court had upheld death sentences imposed on some 100 convicted murderers.
