An Iranian, sentenced to death for the fatal shooting of a mother and her son, was hanged in public in northeastern Tehran before the eyes of hundreds of onlookers.
The man, only identified as Rahi, was hanged in Sohanak area after having been found guilty of murdering Faridatossadat Amir-Hoseyni, 48, and her 24-year-old son Mehdi Golestani, in January."Rahi and his brother Mehdi last January shot dead the woman and her son and injured her husband and another son," the daily Qods said.
Both were sentenced to death, but on appeal the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence against Rahi but issued an order suspending the sentence against Mehdi for further investigation.
This latest execution comes in the wake of an announcement made earlier by the head of the Tehran Criminal Court, Naser Seraj, that the Supreme Court has upheld death sentences imposed on some 100 convicted murderers.
The daily Jomhuri-e Eslami reported that three customs officials, Samad Eftekhari, Mahmud Zhalehdust and Abdorahim Mo'allem, convicted of "economic sabotage" are to be hanged soon, their convictions having been upheld by the Supreme Court.
