Canada marks 50 years since its last execution. Canada's last death sentences were carried out on Dec. 11, 1962. Arthur Lucas was hanged for a crime committed in November of 1961 and Ronald Turpin in February 1962. There were no more executions in Canada in the 14 years that followed. The death penalty was then formally abolished in 1976.
