China announced a new spate of high-level corruption cases as President Jiang Zemin warned the nation to prepare for a "long-term and arduous" struggle for clean government. Yu Ding, 47, the former police chief of Liuzhou city in the southern border region of Guangxi was convicted of taking bribes and illegally holding and concealing guns. He was sentenced to death.
