Pang Maosheng, a 29 year old migrant worker who resented wealthy people, was executed in Beijing after being convicted of a robbery and extortion spree that left one woman dead. On December 26, 2005, Pang stopped a woman who had just arrived home in a Honda sedan in Haidian District. The woman initially pretended to cooperate, saying she would turn over all her money, but then fled to the door of a nearby apartment. Yang stabbed her repeatedly as she screamed for help. The woman, later identified as an associate professor of Tsinghua University, bled to death at the scene.
Officials also allege Pang attempted to extort money from ‘wealthy’ people by sending threatening letters.
