Edward Castro, 50, of Latin-American origin was executed by lethal injection. He was pronounced dead at 18:15. Castro had confessed to murdering Austin Scott, 56, in January 1987. He had also been sentenced to life imprisonment in another State for a different murder. Castro had waived his right to all further appeals. He was the sixth person to be executed in the State during the year, the 49th since the State resumed executions in 1979. He was the 83rd to be put to death in the U.S. during the year and No 681 since the death penalty was re-introduced in 1976.
