Eight Iraqi citizens were executed in the province of Basra on charges of links with opposition forces, said the human right[s] office of the Communist Party. An office statement distributed in Damascus said the eight citizens had been detained in December 2000.
They had remained missing ever since until their bodies were turned over to their families recently with apparent marks of torture. The families were banned from showing any signs of mourning.
