Following a death warrant signed by the Beijing Municipal Higher People's Court president, the Beijing Municipal No 2 Intermediate People's Court escorted a number of condemned criminals to the execution ground for execution, including Cheng Zhanming, a killer who had absconded for 15 years, and Fang Haifeng, a robber-killer.
Cheng Zhanming, was found guilty of killing his girlfriend, Hu's, parents who were opposed to their courtship, in November 1985. He had entered their residence in Beijing's Fengtai District with a key made in advance, carrying a dagger, and stabbed Hu's father fiercely in the chest and throat, killing him. Cheng killed Hu's mother with the dagger when she came home. After committing the crime, Cheng fled to Hebei and Henan and hid himself under a different name in an attempt to avoid legal sanctions. Eventually he was captured and brought to justice.
Fang Haifeng who had robbed and killed another robber-killer, Jin Zilong, and others, was also executed.
