The High Court of Bombay at Goa reduced the death sentence awarded to a man by a lower Court to life imprisonment.
The division bench reduced the sentence on criminal appeal filed by Ryan Fernandes challenging the order of South Goa’s Sessions Court in 2007.
Ryan and co-accused Francis D’Sa, Rajendra Singh and Sachin Parab were convicted of murdering Ryan's father-in-law Dr Shrikant Verenkar in 2005.
While Ryan was awarded death sentence, the Court had ordered life imprisonment to the three others. According to the prosecution, the foursome kidnapped the doctor and then strangulated him before dumping his body in a forest.
