"If things are to be done coherently, Iraqi law should make way for international law, for the crimes committed by Saddam were crimes against humanity", declared instead Hands Off Cain Secretary Sergio D'Elia, highlighting what has happened in the past with UN tribunals which exclude the death penalty.
According to D'Elia, "saying that Saddam should be tried by an Iraqi court, formed by Iraqis, according to Iraqi law, is the same as affirming the necessity of the death penalty".
"Those who want the victims to judge their own oppressor have a tribal vision of justice," D'Elia concluded.
