In San Francisco, a divided 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the conviction and death sentence of Robert Garceau, accused of killing Maureen Bautista and her 14-year-old son, Telesforo Bautista in 1984. Because of prejudicial instructions to the jury during his capital trial, set aside the conviction.
