INDIA. KILLER OF 5-YEAR-OLD GETS DEATH PENALTY

the second additional district and sessions court in Jamshedpur, India, sentenced Tara Sardar to death for sacrificing a five-year-old boy to “appease” God.
It was alleged that on January 23, 2005, Sardar hacked to death five-year-old Anthony Topno at Bhilaidih village, Potka. The mother of the child died of shock a couple of months after the incident. According to sources, Sardar committed the crime to “please” a goddess at whose feet the beheaded body of the victim was found.
Soon after the verdict came, the convict’s family members broke down near the courtroom.
While being escorted back to the jail, an apparently contrite Sardar said that what he had done was “very bad”. “I regret what I did with the little boy. I should not have done that,” he added.
