A fast track court in Jammu and Kashmir, India, awarded the death penalty to an accused charged with the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in 2010.
The fast track court headed by District and Sessions Judge Sanjiv Gupta sentenced to death the accused Shankar, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, who was charged with the rape of the minor.
Shankar was staying in Jammu city in 2010 when he committed the heinous crime.
The court has also asked the state government to give a cash compensation of Rs.200,000 to the victim's family.
