Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's cabinet gave the green light for the death sentence for those guilty of making fake pharmaceutical products in the country, officials said. The cabinet approved an amendment to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and said it would give the death penalty to those involved in "manufacturing, selling and dealing with fake drugs," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said.
