'Sakineh's fate depends on how strongly the European Union decides to mobilise itself against the death penalty and the Iranian government, and apply the necessary pressure to stop her from being hung. It would truly be a mockery if Sakineh, after being saved from stoning, ends up being hung,' Hands Off Cain secretary Sergio D'Elia told ADNKRONOS.
'The movement by the whole world and in particular by the European Union against her stoning must be an absolute no to any form of execution. However, in this decade the free world and the European Union have only shown compliance,' D'Elia continued.
'The political dialogue with the Iranian authorities must be characterised by an absolute respect of human rights, a subject that has not been treated with the gravity it requires.'
