The man, identified only as Mehdi Kh., 36, was sentenced for the rape and murder of seven-year-old Mahboubeh Hosseini during last year’s month of Ramadan. The report added that execution drew a cheering crowd.
The hanging brings to at least 81 the number of people executed in Iran so far in 2006, according to a tally based on press and witness reports.
