The execution of an Azerbaijani-Turkish citizen, Mehdi Azaryoun, sentenced to death for drug-related charges, was carried out in Urmia Central Prison. The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights received a report confirming that the execution took place at dawn on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
Mehdi Azaryoun had initially been arrested on charges of homicide. The news of this execution has not yet been announced in Iranian state media.
