IRAN: WOMAN CHARGED WITH MURDER HANGED

A 26- year old woman charged with murder was hanged in Iran early morning, Tehran Prosecutor’s Office said, Iranian ISNA news agency reported.
Reyhaneh Jabbari, who was arrested in 2007, was sentenced to death for murdering Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi, allegedly a former employee of Iran’s ministry of intelligence.
Her execution was due to be carried out on September 30 but was postponed to convince the victim’s family to forgive Jabbari.
According to the Iranian laws, the victim’s nearest relative is entitled to take the life of the killer or forgive him/her if the court approves this.
Jabbari claimed that Sarbandi had tried to sexually assault her and she stabbed him in the back.
She also claimed that another man who was also in the house at that time killed him, however the court did accept these claims.
Shole Pakravan, Reyhaneh’s mother, confirmed her death in a heartbreaking Facebook post. “My Reyhaneh was hanged,” the message reads in Arabic. “She had a fever when she danced at the gallows. Three people stood next to the gallows. Mother and …. and Jalal Sarbandi [the victim's oldest son]. I don’t know if they were sad or angry. I don’t know if I am patient or thinking.”
