JAMAICA. EU FUNDS FIGHT AGAINST THE DEATH PENALTY IN JAMAICA

it was reported that the Independent Jamaican Council for Human Rights (IJCHR) was set to intensify its campaign for the abolition of the death penalty in Jamaica. The IJCHR signed a contract with the European Union for J $24 million to be pumped into the intense promotion of rehabilitation alternatives to the death penalty.
The project was set to run for two years and would focus on five areas. These included advocacy in death penalty cases, advocacy training, research on the death penalty in Jamaica, criminal justice reform and the establishment of a branch of the IJCHR in Montego Bay.
