Takemitsu Mori was sentenced to death for murdering a woman and her infant son at their apartment.
Mori, 49, strangled Mayumi Mori, 28, and caused her infant son to drown in the bathtub in their apartment before setting it ablaze in April 2002, according to the ruling at the Osaka High Court. Mori was angry with the woman -- the wife of his stepson -- for refusing his amorous advances.
"He committed a cruel crime. Because he didn't show any remorse, we find it is impossible for him to get himself back on the right track," said Toshio Shima, the judge presiding over the case at the high court. "We have no choice but to sentence him to death."
Both Mori, who denied the allegations by saying that he never visited the woman' s apartment, and prosecutors had appealed a lower court ruling that sentenced him to life imprisonment.
