Kenyan police came under fire for the execution of a 13-year-old boy, whom witnesses say was gunned down by police officers on Christmas Day. Witnesses said the officers arrested Mutua Maundu in Nairobi's eastern suburb of Maringo, handcuffed him and dragged him to a school compound where they shot him dead. "Three policemen brought him handcuffed to the school and asked him to sit down under a tree a few minutes before shooting him," a witness, who asked to remain unnamed, told AFP. "I didn't know what he had done, but they sent me away with my companions," said the witness. "As I walked away, I saw a police Land Rover drive to the school compound ... I heard about six gun shots and turned to see what was happening only to see him lying down in a pool of blood." The boy's sister, Jemimah Maundu, said she followed the police when she saw them drag her brother to the school. "I saw the police handcuffing my brother and dragging him to the school compound. I stood at a distance... and watched because they told me not to follow them. Behind the school latrines, I saw my brother go down on his knees and lie facing down before they shot him," she said. Police spokesperson Jesse Mituki said the boy was one of a group of thugs who were harassing and robbing members of the public.
