MALAYSIA: DEATH SENTENCE UPHELD FOR MAN CONVICTED OF KILLING BRITONS

The Court of Appeal in Kuching, Malaysia, dismissed the appeal of a fishmonger who was convicted and sentenced to death for killing two British medical students last year.
Zulkifli Abdullah, 24, had his death sentence unanimously upheld by Court of Appeal Judges Datuk David Wong Dak Wah, Datuk Abdul Rahman Sebli and Datuk Zamani A Rahim.
The judges said there was no merit in Zulkifli’s appeal against the conviction.
Last March 31, the High Court found him guilty for causing the death of Neil Dalton and Aidan Brunger near Jalan Abell on Aug 16 last year.
Zulkifli’s defence counsel Anthony Tai had submitted that the key witness had told police she saw one person stabbing the two foreigners, but when she made a distress call, she said three persons had come out from a car and attacked the two foreigners.
Zulkifli can still make a final appeal against the conviction and death sentence to the Federal Court of Appeal.
Dalton and Brunger, both 22, had just completed their internship at a hospital here and were due to return to Britain.
