MALAYSIA: THREE IRANIANS SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

Three Iranians were sentenced to death at a High Court in Malaysia today for trafficking a total of 2.324 kilogramme of methamphetamine, four years ago.
Judge Datuk Nor Azian Shaari, in delivering her verdict, said the testimonies given by Seyedbahman Asighannamini, 40, Ali Fereydoni Mohamad Sadegh, 27, and Mohammad Hossein Abolghasem, 60, during the trial had many loopholes and contradictions.
"Thus, I find all three of you guilty and sentence you to death."
Two of the accused, handicraft maker Seyedbahman and car spare part dealer Ali Fereydoni committed the offence at the Serdang Hospital between Feb 3 and Feb 5, 2010, with each trafficking 378 and 427 grammes of meth, respectively.
The third accused, cook Mohammad Hossein, committed the offence on Feb 3, 2010, trafficking 1.519 kg of meth, at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) arrival hall.
All three including Mohammad Hossein, who was in a wheelchair due to a diabetes-related condition, were calm when the judgement was read.
They were detained together on Feb 3, 2010 at KLIA after airport security found them behaving in a suspicious manner.
Body checks revealed the third accused was carrying a bag containing the drugs while a total of 143 drug capsules were excreted by Seyedbahman and Ali Fereydoni after given laxatives.
Deputy public prosecutor Suzana Abdul Latiff appeared for the prosecution while Rajpal Singh represented all the accused.
