Malcolm Robert Johnson, 41, black, was put to death by lethal injection in Oklahoma State Penitentiary. He was pronounced dead at 00:13. He had been convicted of killing Ura Alma Johnson, 76, white, in October 1981. He was the first person to be executed in the State during the year, the 20th since the State resumed executions in 1990. He was the first to be executed in the U.S. during the year and No 599 since the death penalty was re-introduced in 1976.
