Mamoru Takuma was urged by his lawyers to reveal why he fatally stabbed eight primary students and wounded 15 others, including teachers, at Ikeda Primary School in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture, in June 2001, on the second day of his trial, which began Dec. 27, 2001 for the alleged crime at Osaka District Court.
Prosecutors quoted Takuma's father as saying, "I cannot apologize to the victims and their families for my son's deeds with any words, and it is only natural for them to harbour a grudge against me," adding that his son deserved no less than the death penalty.
