Nasser Shiragha, the head of a convicted gang of armed robbers, was hanged in Tehran, the official Iran paper reported, adding that 11 other members of the group would also soon be executed.
Shiragha had been convicted of heading the "Wall of China" gang, which carried out a string of 180 armed robberies in Tehran over a period of several years.
The crime wave netted the gang some 13 billion rials (1.5 million dollars), 316,000 dollars in foreign currency and 37 kg of gold. In total, 12 members of the gang were sentenced to death.
