NIGERIA. DEATH SENTENCE FOR SEVEN CULT MEMBERS

a Lagos High Court in Nigeria convicted seven members of a cult group to death by hanging for the murder of an Islamic cleric. Judge Benedicta Shitta-Bey sentenced the members of the cult, known as "Alawo masquerade", over the murder of Sheikh Sofwan Akodo in March 2003 in Epe, a mostly Muslim town near Lagos. Those sentenced to death were named as: Lateef Anjorin, Adekunle Adeniyi, Isiaka Ajetunmobi and Monsuru Ajetunmobi, Tunwashe Kabiru, Moses Egiebade, Talimu Rashidi Peku.
