prosecutors are preparing for Indonesia’s 11th execution this year as a Nigerian inmate on death row for smuggling heroin was moved from his detention at the Nusakambangan prison island in Central Java Province to outside Jakarta. “He will be executed before the end of this month as planned,” said Attorney General’s Office spokesman Jasman Panjaitan. He was referring to Namaona Denis, who was given a death sentence by an appeals court in Bandung, West Java Province, in September 2001 for attempting to smuggle one kilogram of heroin into the country through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Denis, who entered Indonesia on a Malawian passport, was sentenced to death after appealing the life sentence handed down to him by the Tangerang District Court earlier that year.
