Senator Natale D'Amico, vice-president of the left wing Margherita party, tabled two parliamentary motions requesting the intervention of the Italian government in two death penalty cases. The first motion, addressed to the Foreign Affairs Minister refers to the capital punishment meted out in China to adherents of evangelical groups. The second called the attention of the Interior Minister to the case of a Moroccan citizen, Fatima Echarai, resident in Francavilla (Pe) who risks the death penalty if she is returned to her country as she has a 16-month-old child, but is unmarried.
