Seychelles abolished the death penalty for all crimes in 1993. The Constitution of the Republic of Seychelles (1993) at Art. 15 states: "A law shall not provide for a sentence of death to be imposed by any court."
On December 18, 2008 and December 21st, 2010, Seychelles was absent during the vote on the Resolution on a Moratorium on the Use of the Death Penalty at the UN General Assembly. On December 20, 2012, Seychelles voted in favour of the Resolution.
