Shahram and Farhang Pourmansuri, who were 17 and 18-years-old respectively when they tried to hijack a plane in November 2000, and were due to be executed on January 19, were given a last-minute reprieve. 
Also due to be hanged was their brother-in-law, Khaled Hardani, who was 29 at the time of the crime and convicted of being the ringleader. But the official news agency IRNA said the head of the hard-line judiciary, Ayatollah Mahmud Hashemi Shahroudi, ordered that the executions be postponed pending a fresh review of the case.
IRNA and the student news agency ISNA also quoted a judiciary spokesman as saying the brothers' execution had been halted because they were minors when they tried to hijack the Ahwaz-Bandar Abbas flight.
Their lawyer, Mahmood Alizadeh, was also quoted as saying that the usual punishment for such crimes is three to 15 years in prison.
Three crew members, including two security guards, were injured during the failed hijack attempt, after which the aircraft landed safely at its scheduled destination.
