A youth was sentenced to death on 13 December 2019 by the Colombo High Court after being found guilty for possessing and peddling 25.77grams of heroin.
Simiyon Vincent, 26, was arrested along with 107.58 grams of heroin and 12.17 grams of cannabis by the Police Narcotics Unit while inspecting his house in the Aluthkade area in 2018. Accordingly, the accused was sentenced another two years of Rigorous Imprisonment for possessing and peddling 12.17 grams of cannabis by Colombo High Court Judge.
The case was taken up before the High Court Judge Shashi Mahendran and he observed that the prosecution has proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and the verdict was read out in open court by Colombo High Court Interpreter Mudliar M.M.A. Afrar.
The Attorney General (AG) had filed an indictment against the accused. State Counsel Himali Jayaneththi appeared on behalf of the Attorney General.
