twelve opposition members in Swaziland were charged with high treason and could face the death penalty in connection with a spate of petrol-bomb attacks in the small southern African kingdom.
The 12 members of the banned People's United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO), which was demanding an end to the autocratic rule of King Mswati III, were served the indictment late in the evening, the defense lawyer told a high court hearing in Mbabane.
They faced charges of high treason in the form of sedition and subversive activities and attempted murder, according to the documents filed by Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Mumcy Dlamini. No one was killed in the attacks.
