Texas legislators Lucio, McClendon, and Hinojosa, introduced Life Without Parole Bills on January 9, 2001. (SB 85, HB 30, and HB 365 respectively). On January 12, Rep. Turner introduced another LWOP bill (HB 632). Currently, a defendant convicted of a capital crime can only receive a sentence of either life without parole after serving 40 calendar years or the death penalty.
