the Appeals Court in the United Arab Emirates has upheld the death sentence against a man who killed a prostitute who stole Dh6,000 from him.
In April last year, AK, a 29-year-old Pakistani, worker paid S H, from Uzbekistan, Dh100 for sex at her flat in Al Mutaina. He claims she had persuaded him to drink alcohol.
Afterwards he passed out, and when he awoke and returned to his room in Naif he discovered he was missing Dh6,000, which he had been saving to send to his wife in Pakistan.
"I pleaded to her several times to return the money, but she refused and repeated to me that she had taken money from many people and never returned it," AK said in prosecution records.
Six days later, on the morning of April 28, he went back to her flat with a 16-inch knife. SH opened the door, and he begged her to return the money. When she refused he pulled her out of her gown and grabbed her by her hair. He was arrested on April 30, with the victim's money and phones.
AK insisted he had only intended to scare SH with the knife, but added that "she deserved to die" and he felt no remorse.
In February this year, the Dubai Criminal Court convicted AK of premeditated murder and theft, and sentenced him to death.
