The death sentences issued to four men who tried in 1998 to sell Dh4 million worth of hashish to an undercover policeman have been upheld by the Dubai Court of Cassation. The verdicts against the two Iranian sailors, an Omani and a Pakistani will now go to the Ruler's Court for approval. They were sentenced to death by the Court of First Instance on May 30, 2000. The sentences were upheld by the Appeal Court on November 26, 2000 and now by the Cassation Court, which is the final court of appeal. The four were arrested during a police sting operation in April 1998 when they sought to sell almost 464 kilos of hashish for Dh4 million.
