The Iranian newspaper Etemaad website reported that five people convicted of murder by Tehran Criminal Court were hanged in Tehran's Qasr Prison.
The first to be executed was Mostafa Mohammadi for the premeditated murder of a young man named Bakhtiar. He had been condemned to death by the judge of Criminal Court Bench 1601. The second was Rasul Salimkhani who had killed a friend, Adel Asadi, with knife after a quarrel in 2001.
A woman, Zahra Nazari, who had killed her husband, Hasan Fallahi, in 2001, was hanged since the husband's close family preferred that punishment. According to Iran's Sharia laws, the family of a victim can request either execution or imprisonment for a murderer.
Mohammad Ali [Yusefi] and Hasan Yusefi, who had murdered two people, Hamid Reza and Mehdi, in a quarrel in 2000, were also executed.
A young man, also convicted of murder, escaped execution at the last minute at the request of the victim's family.
